Remembering Ben

On Wednesday, March 25th, we lost one of our own. Ben Taylor, a familiar face at Sunday River and Wilson Lake, passed away unexpectedly in a skiing accident at his beloved Sunday River Resort (where he both worked and played).

He was well known, well-liked, upbeat and always smiling wherever he happened to be stationed; first as the Golf Professional at Sunday River Golf Club and then as General Manager at Wilson Lake Country Club. His easy-going attitude and passion for skiing, golf and baseball, however, gave little indication of his education or background. A Johns Hopkins graduate who majored in psychology (and was pursuing a Masters degree in Counseling), Ben's work experience included several years as a trainer, technician and published editor in the medical research field. He was a purchaser at Howard Hughes Medical Institute and involved with the marketing and strategy of a software and web development company. Perhaps it was his background in all these fields that made him a such a good teacher, listener, employee and friend.

At 35 years old, Ben left us far too soon. It's worth noting, however, that he did so as he enjoyed one of his great passions. His final run at his favorite mountain took place under blue skies and sunshine, with mild temps and perfect snow. He was surrounded by friends... looking out from on high across the snow-covered western Maine mountains. It was the perfect day-- and just like any other day in Ben Taylor's life, he grabbed hold of it with everything he had.

Fairways and greens, Ben. You'll be missed.
