A REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE FROM GOLFERS IN THE LINE OF DUTY.

On Thursday, December 19th, Harris Golf received an e-mail from Staff Sargent Justin Poirier, currently serving with the 133rd Engineer Battalion out Gardiner, Maine."Task Force Black Bear" includes nearly 200 men and women from all over the state.

SSG Poirier (who hails from Waterville) explained to us that he and his fellow Maine Army National Guardsmen had created a makeshift 9-hole "golf course" on a patch of rock, sand and gravel. Because of the rocky terrain, the few clubs they have are in poor shape. And the uneven, often dangerous ground surrounding their track has made for a lot of lost balls. The e-mail asked for our advice on where to purchase used balls inexpensively.

For these men and women serving far away from home, however (especially during the holidays), we wanted to do something more.

A GOLF SHIPMENT, FROM DOWN EAST TO THE MIDDLE EAST.

We are extremely proud of ALL of our women and men who are serving or have served in all different branches of the U.S. Military, all over the world. The story of this group of Mainers--doing the important work of freedom in the distant, arid lands of Afghanistan-- particularly moved us. Golf is clearly a necessity to keep the soldiers going-- and where the game would seem to be an impossibility, that uniquely American spirit of determination has made it a reality.

To say "thank you" to Task Force Black Bear for their service (and for exhibiting the true spirit of golf), our company has shipped out four full sets of clubs and accompanying stand bags... two full size hitting mats... tees... over 700 new golf balls...and nine custom-manufactured pins and flags to set up their course. It's essentially a "golf course in a box"-- and we feel it's the least we can do for our fellow Mainers, displaced and giving of themselves for the rest of us.

WELCOME THEM HOME WITH GOLF AT SOME OF MAINE'S TOP-RANKED COURSES.

The Clubs and balls being sent to Task Force Black Bear will keep them swinging in Afghanistan... but when they return to the great state of Maine (currently they anticipate being home by the summer of 2014), we want them to get out there and play at facilities worthy of their service. Together, we can make that happen-- with our "Task Force Black Bear" Pass.

For just $50, the Task Force Black Bear Pass gets you 18 holes including cart at your choice of Sunday River, Old Marsh, Penobscot Valley or The Bath Golf Club. The pass is good any day of the week in 2014. And for every pass you purchase, we will provide a matching pass IN YOUR NAME to someone who is part of Task Force Black Bear. The Pass is a great offer for YOU... and your purchase means a round of golf at one of these facilities for a hero.

Your freedom (including the freedom to play golf) is paid for by their service. Here's an opportunity to get a great golf deal... and pay them back in part for what they do. Click below to purchase your Task Force Black Bear Pass!
